Treasurer’s Report: GIPAC account Balance: $5,019.76
Public Comment:
Michael Gray supports the drilling amendment, but thinks GIPAC should convince his neighbors who oppose it. He gave background regarding a group of people who bought property uphill across the street from their beach property to ensure water was available. There is a history of people in that area wanting to protect water.
Updates/New Business
Strategy for May 28 th public comment meeting with Planning Commission
GIPAC needs to draft a letter. The board approved a motion to have Kyle help us draft the letter. Steve will contact Kyle to initiate a draft letter.
We need to ask people to comment, and give the timeline to comment. Kathy will draft the GIPAC community message and distribute for comment before posting..
Schedule visit to island by the Health department staff for rainwater
catchment
Kathy reached out to Keith Higgman. Thursdays/Fridays work best for Keith.
Need to identify systems to tour, maybe Tom, Kathy, Steve, Michael systems?
Questions for Keith: Health dept’s role in wells, experiences with Island County and wells.
Ferry discussion:
There was a brief discussion about the updated cost of the new ferry project, the ticket expiration enforcement actions of the county, the Lummi lawsuit, and the new electronic ticketing cost to the ridership.
Skagit County Comprehensive Plan Update:
There was a brief discussion about what the update will cover including: Housing Affordability, DEI, Climate Mitigation and Resilience, Public Safety, Critical Areas Ordinance. GIPAC will continue to monitor as the county goes through this process.
